Welcome,

Commercial radio broadcasting began in the early 1920s and was the primary broadcasting medium that lasted through the 1960s. During this period people regularly tuned in to their favorite programs, and families gathered to listen to the home radio in the evening. Eventually television superseded radio as the medium of choice for scripted programming, variety, and dramatic shows and today commercial radio programming has shifted to narrower formats of news, talk, sports and music while religious broadcasters, listener-supported public radio, and college stations provide their own distinctive format.

Our intent here at Backtrack Radio is to enjoy & share these old time radio programs and to inspire a new generation of listeners to keep them alive. Our goal is to play the best of these old shows to inspire and keep listeners interested in them.

Backtrack Radio is a NOT FOR PROFIT website. Use of this website is free. We do not sell any advertising space and we do not solicit or accept donations of any kind. This website is run completely at our expense and we do it because we love these old time radio programs. The commercials you hear on this site are played for their historical value and to fill in time to keep the programming on schedule. Many of these companies are no longer in business. As for the ones that are, they did not solicit nor do they pay any monies to Backtrack Radio.

We would like to acknowledge the Old Time Radio Researchers group. This organization is largely responsible for preserving and cataloging most of the shows that can be found on various sites across the internet. This group is made up of amazing volunteers who dedicate their own time to preserving these old time radio shows. Although Backtrack Radio does not accept donations, we do encourage those that are willing and able to donate to this group.
